At Mahoods we are committed to continually being as environmentally friendly as possible.
We have systems in place to minimise wastage on our sites and strive to re-cycle a high proportion of our production materials in all the different areas of the business.
Our plastic, cardboard and paper is all re-cycled via a local waste management company. This allows us to re-cycle a high percentage of our waste products. Packing materials are constantly under review to try to reduce this element.
We are constantly trialling ‘peat-free’ and ‘reduced peat’ products to cut down use of this valuable resource. Where possible we use peat alternatives in our compost mixtures. We actively encourage the use of ‘peat free’ compost as a greener alternative to traditional products.
We collect all rainwater from our glasshouses and thus this is used in our irrigation procedures.

By careful management of our plant production we are able to keep the use of chemicals to a minimum giving us the benefit of helping the environment whilst keeping our plants in perfect condition. The use of mechanical methods of weed control reduces the risk of land and water contamination from chemical herbicides.
Careful planning of delivery routes ensures maximum efficiency to fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Company vehicles are monitored to ensure this efficiency is maintained.
As a wholesale nursery, we are in the privileged position of being able to influence a wide section of the private and public sectors to plant trees and shrubs. Thus striving constantly to improve the environment for everybody
